Pistis Sophia

The Hidden Teaching of the Savior β€” Restored

It came to pass, when Yeshua had risen from the dead, that he passed eleven years speaking with his disciples, and instructing them only up to the regions of the First Commandment and up to the regions of the First Mystery, that within the Veil, within the First Commandment, which is the four and twentieth mystery without and belowβ€”those mysteries which are in the second space of the First Mystery which is before all mysteriesβ€”the Father in the likeness of a dove.

The Cosmic Journey

And Yeshua said unto his disciples: β€œI am come forth out of that First Mystery, which is the Last Mystery, that is the four and twentieth mystery.” And his disciples knew not nor understood that there was anything within that mystery; but they thought of that mystery, that it is the head of the universe and the head of all existence... they thought of it, that it is the completion of all completions, because Yeshua had said to them concerning that mystery, that it surroundeth the First Commandment and the five Impressions and the great Light and the five Helpers and the whole Treasury of Light.

The Fall of Sophia

And it came to pass, when Pistis Sophia was in the thirteenth aeon, in the region of all her brethren the invisibles, that she gazed at the height and saw the light of the veil of the Treasury of Light, and she longed to reach to that region, and she could not reach to that region. And she ceased to perform the mystery of the thirteenth aeon, and sang praises to the light of the height, which she had seen in the light of the veil of the Treasury of Light.

The Cry & The Answer

When then Pistis Sophia had said this, the sorrowing one, she cried out again: β€œO Light of lights, in whom I have trusted from the beginning, hearken now then, O Light, unto my repentance. Save me, O Light, for my thoughts are gone into the chaos.” And Yeshua, the compassionate, the Savior, when he heard that Pistis Sophia had sung the second repentance, he helped her and led her up out of the chaos, and placed her in a place which is somewhat higher, but she was not yet restored to her own region.

The Rescue

And it came to pass, when Yeshua had finished speaking these words to his disciples, he said: β€œUnderstand ye in what manner I speak with you?” Peter started forward and said unto Yeshua: β€œMy Lord, we will not endure this woman, for she dwelleth in our place and suffereth us not to speak, but she speaketh many times.” And Yeshua, the compassionate, said: β€œLet him in whom the power of his spirit seetheth, so that he understandeth what I say, come forward and speak.”

The Teaching

Yeshua said: β€œRenounce the whole world and all the matter therein and all its cares and all its sins, in a word, all the associations which are in it, that ye may be worthy of the mysteries of the Light and be saved in the Treasury of Light.”

The Commission

β€œGo and preach to the whole world, saying: β€˜Cease not to seek day and night, until ye find the saving mysteries.’ Say unto them: β€˜Renounce the world and the matter therein, for he who buyeth and selleth in this world and he who eateth and drinketh of his matter and he who liveth in all its cares and in all its associations, hoardeth up a second light to his light...’”

The Pistis Sophia is arguably the most significant Gnostic text ever discovered, offering a deep dive into the hidden teachings Jesus supposedly shared with his disciples during the eleven years following his resurrection. Written primarily in Coptic and preserved in the Askew Codex, the text describes a complex celestial hierarchy and the dramatic fall and redemption of Pistis Sophia, a divine being whose longing for the highest light led her into the depths of the chaos. Her story serves as a cosmic blueprint for the human soul’s own journey, illustrating that through repentance and the reception of divine mysteries, one can transcend the material world and return to the Treasury of Light.

What makes the Pistis Sophia unique is its intimate portrayal of the disciplesβ€”including Mary Magdalene, who plays a central role as a primary interlocutorβ€”as they struggle to grasp these esoteric truths. The text moves beyond traditional parables, presenting a technical and mystical framework of 'mysteries' that act as keys to unlocking different levels of existence. By centering on the theme of restoration, it provides a powerful message of hope: that no soul is too lost in the 'chaos' of matter to be rescued by the compassionate Light of the Savior.

Chamber I β€” Awakening the Disciples

It came to pass then, when the sun had risen in the east, that a great light-power came down, shining exceedingly, and there was no measure to its light. For it came out of the Light of lights, and it came out of the last mystery, which is the four-and-twentieth mystery, from within and without. And those light-powers of the great light-power shone exceedingly and were immeasurable. And the light-powers also which were in the light, their light was immeasurable. And they were in one another, being of one and the same light-power.

The Partial Teaching

It came to pass then, when the disciples saw this light, that they were in great agitation and were in great fear. And they looked all of them together toward the light of the great light-power, which had come down upon Yeshua, and they were blinded with the great light which was upon him. And they saw only the light, for there were no eyes in them to see the light, and they looked all of them together toward the light of the great light-power.

When then Yeshua had seen that his disciples were in great agitation, he spoke with them in great compassion, saying: "Take courage. It is I, be not afraid." When then the disciples had heard these words, they said: "Lord, if it be thou, draw thy light-glory into thyself, that we may be able to stand; else our eyes are darkened, and we are agitated, and the whole world also is agitated because of the great light which is about thee."

Section 2 β€” The Cosmic Journey: How the Savior Descended

When the Savior set forth for the world, he came into the midst of the rulers of the sphere wearing the form of Gabriel, messenger of the ages. The rulers of the ages did not recognize him. He passed through their realms unseen, moving through each level of the cosmic order in disguise.

The Hidden Journey & Cosmic Ascension (Chambers I–II)

He departed that realm and approached the second sphere's gate β€” the realm called Destiny. All gates were thrown wide, opening of themselves. He entered Destiny's houses, shining with immeasurable light. The rulers of Destiny were thrown into confusion. They fell upon one another, unable to return to their own order.
When he entered their realm, they resisted and fought against the light. He took a third of their power so they could not accomplish their limiting deeds. The destiny and sphere of the rulers were disrupted. Their ancient orders β€” the machinery that governed fate, time, and the movement of souls β€” were restructured from within.
The prophets recognized him. The disciples, gathered on the Mount of Olives, were shaken by earthquake and blinding light. They wept together in fear, saying: "What will happen? Perhaps the Savior will destroy all the worlds?"

Then the light withdrew, and the Savior stood among them again β€” no longer in the form of light, but in the form they knew. And he said: "Rise. Do not be afraid. I am your master."
This is the account of how the Savior descended through every layer of the cosmic order, disrupted the powers that bind souls to fate, and returned to his disciples to reveal what he had done β€” and why.

Section 3 β€” The Fall of Sophia: A Soul Lost in Darkness

Sophia was a divine being of light β€” one of the great emanations dwelling in the thirteenth realm, above the twelve cosmic spheres. She looked upward and saw a great light shining from the Treasury of Light, the highest realm. She wanted to go there. She left her own region without the command of the Source Father, without her paired counterpart, and descended alone toward the light she had seen.

The Descent of Sophia (Chamber III)

But the light she followed was not the true light. It was a counterfeit β€” a trap set by the lion-faced power, Yaldabaoth, who had created it from his own matter to lure her downward. She descended through realm after realm, and as she fell, the rulers of the lower spheres surrounded her, mocked her, and stripped away her light.
From himself, Yaldabaoth created a great lion-faced power, and from his own matter he brought forth a host of violent material forces. He sent these into the regions below, into the chaos, to consume what remained of Sophia's light. She was surrounded. She could not ascend. She could not return to her own region.

She cried out thirteen times.
Each cry was a recognition β€” a deeper acknowledgment of what she had done, what she had lost, and what she still believed about the light she had trusted. The guards of the gates of the spheres searched for her. All who remained in their mystery mocked her. But she looked up to the heights and had faith.
This is the heart of the book. Not a story about failure β€” but about what a soul does when it has trusted the wrong light and paid the full price. She did not stop calling. And the light heard every word.

Section 4 β€” The Cry and the Answer: Light Responds to Repentance

Sophia cried to the light. And the light forgave her transgression β€” in that she had left her region and gone down into the darkness.

The Light Answers Sophia (Chamber IV)

She spoke the sixth recognition, then the seventh, then the eighth. Each one a deeper surrender. Each one a more honest accounting of what she had done and what she still trusted. She did not argue. She did not justify. She named her error and kept calling.
Through the ninth recognition, the tenth, the eleventh, the twelfth β€” each revealing deeper dimensions of her spiritual struggle and growing faith. The Savior, moved with compassion, heard her cry from within the chaos. He sent a light stream down to her β€” not yet to rescue her, but to strengthen her, to let her know she had been heard.
The light did not abandon her because she had made a mistake. It did not withhold itself because she had left without permission. It forgave her transgression and sent help.

This is what the Savior told his disciples: that the light always answers a soul that turns and calls. Not because the soul has earned it. Not because the soul is perfect. But because the soul has stopped running and started looking upward.
The answer always comes. The question is whether the soul keeps calling long enough to receive it.
Mary Magdalene, listening to this account, wept. She understood something the other disciples were still working to grasp: that Sophia's story was not a cosmic myth. It was the story of every soul that has ever trusted the wrong light and found its way back.

Section 5 β€” The Rescue: Liberation from Chaos

Before the Savior could lead Sophia out of chaos, it was not yet commanded by the Source Father. So he waited. And while he waited, the shadow system saw that his light stream had reclaimed their stolen light power β€” and they attacked again.
The lion-faced power and the material forces that had surrounded Sophia launched a renewed assault. They tried to take back what had been restored to her. They pressed in from every side.
But the command came. The Source Father gave the word. And the Savior descended into the chaos and led Sophia out.

The Rescue from Chaos (Chamber V)

She was not returned to her original region β€” the thirteenth realm where she had dwelt before the fall. She was placed in a new region: below the thirteenth realm, above the twelve cosmic spheres, in a place prepared for her. A place between what she had lost and what she had not yet regained.
Mary came forward with eyes bright with understanding. She asked the Savior to explain the deeper meaning of what had happened β€” the grace, the truth, the mission of the light stream. The Savior answered her. He explained that the light stream had been sent not only to rescue Sophia, but to demonstrate something to every soul in every realm: that the light does not abandon what belongs to it.

The rescue was complete. But the teaching was just beginning. What Sophia's liberation revealed about the nature of light, shadow, and the soul's journey home β€” that is what the remaining chambers are for.

Section 6 β€” The Teaching: What the Mysteries Actually Are

After the Savior had finished telling his disciples about all the trials that had befallen Sophia β€” how she had called out to the light, how she had been rescued and led from the chaos β€” Sophia herself sang a song of return. A hymn of gratitude from a soul that had been lost and found.
Then Mary Magdalene came forward and asked the deepest questions.

Wisdom Beyond Worlds & Consciousness Beyond Cosmos (Chambers VI–VII)

The Savior answered with profound reverence. He described the incomparable light β€” what exists in the highest realm that no earthly comparison can reach. He described the great reversal: how the last will be first, how the souls who have been stripped of everything by the rulers of the lower spheres will be restored and elevated. He described the universal transformation β€” the moment when the entire cosmic order is restructured and every soul finds its proper place.
Mary's face shone with dawning comprehension. "Savior," she said, "you're describing something that affects not just individual souls, but the entire cosmic order."
Yes. That is exactly what the mysteries are.

The mysteries are not rituals. They are not passwords or secret handshakes. They are keys β€” living knowledge that allows a soul to navigate the rulers of the ages, to pass through the gates of the cosmic spheres, to ascend through the realms that would otherwise hold it bound.
Whoever holds the mysteries holds a map. Not a map of places β€” but a map of the soul's journey home. Every realm, every ruler, every gate β€” the mysteries reveal what stands there and how to move through it.
This is what the Savior came to give. Not a religion. A map.

Section 7 β€” The Commission: What to Do With This

After the disciples had absorbed the cosmic understanding the Savior had shared, he continued with gentle authority.
"When you enter cities or kingdoms or distant lands, proclaim first to them."
This was the sacred commission. Not a command to build institutions or establish hierarchies β€” but to go, and to give what had been given to them. The mysteries of light. The keys that allow a soul to navigate death, to pass through the rulers of the ages, to ascend without being held back.
Mary's eyes brightened with hope. "But Savior, what about a soul that has received the mysteries of light? Surely their journey is different?"
Yes. A soul that holds the mysteries does not wander after death the way a soul without them does. It knows the way. It knows what stands at each gate and how to move through it. The rulers of the lower realms cannot hold it. The destiny and sphere that govern ordinary souls cannot bind it.

Navigating Death, Bondage & The Universal Liberation (Chambers VIII–IX)

Then Mary spoke with quiet intensity. "Savior, when consciousness withdraws from our awareness, does darkness actually enter our world?"
His response carried both gentleness and gravity. Picture consciousness as light in a vessel. When the light dims, shadow fills the space β€” not because darkness has power of its own, but because light has withdrawn. This is the nature of shadow. It is not a force. It is an absence.
And then the final question β€” the one that closes the book. Mary's voice carried deep concern: "Does this mean everything in a person's life β€” every joy, every suffering, every choice β€” is predetermined?"
The Savior's answer is the final commission. The soul has a choice. The mysteries exist precisely because the soul has a choice. The keys were given so that the soul could use them.
The ocean of invocation is open. The light is waiting. What will you do with what you now know?

The mysteries are not rituals. They are not passwords or secret handshakes. They are keys β€” living knowledge that allows a soul to navigate the rulers of the ages, to pass through the gates of the cosmic spheres, to ascend through the realms that would otherwise hold it bound.
Whoever holds the mysteries holds a map. Not a map of places β€” but a map of the soul's journey home. Every realm, every ruler, every gate β€” the mysteries reveal what stands there and how to move through it.
This is what the Savior came to give. Not a religion. A map.
