The 12 chapters are the 12 chambers walked in sequence — from Hey (The Face, the beginning of identity) to Kof (The Hidden, the room behind all rooms where the soul dissolves back into the source). "Vanity of vanities" is not nihilism. It is the sound of a man who has walked all 12 rooms and is telling you what he found in each one.
